A damning report prompted by a Sky News investigation has found officers in Greater Manchester Police are abusing their power by carrying out demeaning strip searches of people in custody.
The Baird Inquiry revealed officers have been making unlawful arrests, treating victims as perpetrators, and traumatising some of those who have suffered sexual abuse or domestic violence.
The independent inquiry was launched in response to a Sky News report into GMP’s treatment of three women in custody — but it has broadened to look at problems at all but one of the force’s police stations.
