The Conservative party needs to regain voters’ trust with a "fresh leader" and go "back to basics", the Tees Valley mayor Lord Houchen has told Sky News.
Speaking to Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips, he said the election result showed the party had "let a lot of people down" and it needed to "regain trust" with the public.
Lord Houchen said people want a party that isn’t going to "fight like cats in a sack" but unite together with someone leading who cares about public service and has "clear ideas".
