Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has warned that "keyboard warriors" who spread online hate will be prosecuted.
He told Sky News those committing crimes from "further afield online, we will come after you".
X owner Elon Musk and far-right activist Tommy Robinson, who is subject to an arrest warrant having left the country ahead of contempt of court proceedings, have both been accused of spreading misinformation about the protests.
Sir Mark also rejected claims police are treating protesters differently according to their race or skin colour.
