Ukraine on Thursday claimed fresh advances in its cross-border offensive into Russia, where it said it had seized over a thousand square kilometres and taken over 82 settlements, including the town of Sudzha in the Kursk region. It is the biggest attack by a foreign army on Russian soil since World War II. "Ukraine never had the goal to conquer any new territory," said FRANCE 24 correspondent Emmanuelle Chaze reporting from Kyiv. "But it intends to use this territory as a bargaining chip in case of negotiations," she added.
