Democrats get behind Harris at the Chicago DNC | DW News

On opening night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, US President Joe Biden gave an emotional speech to endorse Kamala Harris as the party’s presidential candidate. He rallied the crowd around the Harris campaign, saying a vote for her was a vote for democracy. Just two months ago, Biden had expected to clinch the Democratic nomination for a second term. But concerns surrounding his age and fitness led the party to back Vice President Harris instead, who has managed to lift the party in the polls ahead of the November elections.
