Pakistani police have charged a man with cyberterrorism for allegedly claiming the suspect who stabbed to death three young girls to death in Southport was a recently arrived asylum-seeker.
Farhan Asif, 32, a freelance web developer, is alleged to have posted the claim on YouTube and Facebook.
The misinformation was seen as a key driver of the subsequent riots.
Channel3 Now, an account on the X social media platform that purports to be a news channel, was one of the first outlets to report the false name, Ali Al-Shakati.
