On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made his first visit along the border with Russia since Ukraine’s military launched its assault into Russia’s Kursk region. Zelenskyy met with army commanders. He has said Ukraine has no plans to occupy the area in the long-term, but he wants to create a buffer zone to block attacks on Ukraine. Zelenskyy did not cross the border into Russia.
DW Correspondent Nick Connolly has been embedded with Ukrainian army personnel during their offensive in the Kursk region. He accompanied them as they headed for the town of Sudzha, just beyond the border with Russia, where Ukraine is setting up a military command post.
