The World Health Organisation has already declared MPox a global health emergency. And now a new strain of the virus is rapidly spreading across parts of Africa, leading to a new surge of infections.
The epicentre of the outbreak is the Democratic Republic of Congo, where more than 16,500 cases have been recorded this year, with 570 deaths.
In neighbouring Burundi, one of the world’s poorest nations, there’s been a steep rise in cases, that is worrying medical authorities.
