Venezuelan opposition figure faces arrest warrant | BBC News

There has been turmoil in Venezuela since the announcement of a disputed election result that handed a third consecutive term in power to President Nicolás Maduro.

The opposition says the result is fraudulent and that its candidate, Edmundo González, won the election by a wide margin. Gonzalez faces an arrest warrant for questioning over alleged election fraud.

The lawyer of Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has been detained. Perkins Rocha also serves as legal adviser for the opposition Vente Venezuela party.

He is the latest person with links to the opposition to be seized in the aftermath of last month’s presidential election.

The government of Maduro has detained more than 2,400 people over the past month, creating what the UN has called "a climate of fear".
