The first 10,000 vaccine doses to fight the Mpox virus epidemic have reached Africa. But instead of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the outbreak’s center, the U.S. donation went to Nigeria. This makes the West African country the first to receive a batch.
DR Congo, on the other hand, will stop receiving the vaccine this week. There have been more than 18,000 suspected cases of Mpox and 615 deaths since the beginning of the year as of August 23. The US Agency for International Development (USAid) had promised assistance in the form of 50,000 vaccine doses, but no delivery date has been announced.
