The Chief Secretary to the Treasury has insisted that pensioners will be "protected" by the triple lock after MPs voted to cut winter fuel payments for all but the UK’s poorest pensioners.
Speaking to Sky’s Sophy Ridge on the Politics Hub, Darren Jones said the government is being forced to make "difficult decisions" due to a £22bn hole in public finances which was left behind by the Tories.
He described Labour’s commitment to the triple lock on pension payments as "generous", adding that pensioners are the only people in British society whose income is protected in this way.
