“A potential strike by dockworkers along the East and West coast, with the strike set to begin at midnight on Monday, September 30th.” “This could shut down ports from Maine to Texas. Affecting roughly 60% of U.S. shipping traffic.” “Up to 45,000 dock workers could be involved and even a two-week strike could impact supply chain until 2025”

- Woah!! A potential strike by the International Longshoremen’s Association could start on Tuesday, Oct 1, affecting 68% of our exports and 56% of imports. This could lead to empty store shelves, as each strike day requires six days to recover. The dockworkers, whose contracts expire Sept 30, are seeking higher wages and job security against automation. The last strike was in 1977, before our heavy reliance on imports. With a $36 billion food trade deficit and high inflation, this could become a crisis during the election and holiday season. Retailers are preparing, and it’s wise to do the same.
45,000 union dock workers are threatening to walk off the job at midnight on Tuesday. A strike could result in supply chain issues and immense economic impact, ABC News’ Reena Roy reports.

More pain for the American consumer. It will however highlight our overreliance on cheap imports and perhaps motivate the country to develop a better domestic manufacturing sector.
