Exactly 75 years ago, Mao Zedong proclaimed the foundation of the People’s Republic of China in front of crowds gathered in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square. Ever since, October 1 has been a national holiday in China. To mark this anniversary, some Chinese people spend the week travelling to historical sites, in order to walk in the footsteps of Mao or other significant party leaders. This is known as "Red Tourism", a form of travelling that promotes patriotism. Our correspondent Yena Lee reports on how Beijing wants the country’s past to be remembered.
