Israel said it has begun its widely expected ground offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon, following a build-up of tanks along the border. The army said the targets of Operation Northern Arrows — a number of villages in southern Lebanon — pose an immediate threat to residential communities in northern Israel. The military has also carried out more airstrikes, with blasts heard across the Lebanese capital Beirut very early on Tuesday. Leading up to the expected Israeli ground incursion, Lebanese troops pulled back from the Lebanon-Israel border.
