Israel, at war in Gaza since Hamas’s October 7 attack, has expanded its military campaign to secure its northern border and ensure the safe return of more than 60,000 people displaced by Hezbollah attacks over the past year. A target of one of its recent Beirut strikes was reportedly Hashem Safieddine, a potential successor as Hezbollah head to Hassan Nasrallah who was killed a week ago, and part of what appears to be a strategy to go all out to eliminate the organisation’s leaders, says France 24’s Doug Herbert.
