The International Day of the Girl celebrates girls worldwide, strengthening their voice, agency, and leadership. But it is also a day to highlight their needs. This is according to new estimates released by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund.
UNICEF found that sexual violence against children is widespread and crosses geographic, cultural, and ethnic boundaries. Girls are most at risk in fragile situations such as war zones, refugee camps, countries with weak institutions, and UN peacekeeping forces.
