Sky’s Mark Austin presents The World, live from Beirut, Lebanon.
The UK, France, Germany, and Italy have released a joint statement saying Israeli attacks on UN peacekeepers are contrary to international humanitarian law and must stop at once.
Israel called on peacekeepers from UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) to leave their posts, where they have been stationed to preserve peace since a war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006, but they declined to do so, citing UN Resolution 1701 and the humanitarian needs of civilians in the south.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to hit Hezbollah "in all parts of Lebanon" after his forces struck the north for the first time in a year of hostilities.
