- Hundreds of thousands of migrants are reportedly being held in southern Mexico, waiting to rush the U.S. border after the 2024 election.
- The article suggests that Mexican officials are intentionally holding them until Election Day to prevent any border incidents from influencing the U.S. election.
- The migrants are eager to cross into the U.S. and may move en masse once restrictions are lifted.
- This could create a surge at the border, putting pressure on U.S. immigration policies.
Quotes:
- “The floodgates are waiting to open.”
- “It’s a waiting game until Election Day.”
- “U.S. officials are aware of the looming crisis.”
TODD BENSMAN reports from Southern Mexico where some 150,000 “migrants” are roadblocked, hungry and miserable, as they await CBP One appointments to allow them to proceed north to the United States. The U.S.-Mexico agreement to delay migrants is still intact

- I said last year that there would be the biggest rush across any border in modern history before Jan. 20, 2025. I believe that there are now 28 million across and by the time Jan. 19, 2025 comes there will be another 2 million across. Trump says 21 million I say 28 right now. Soon we will see whose numbers were correct… Todd Bensman @BensmanTodd 17m Hundreds of thousands of migrants are being held in southern Mexico until US Election Day — and are eager to rush border.
- There are 400,000 migrants trapped in Mexico and can’t go to the border, so the democrats don’t look so bad before the election. I told you it was on purpose.
On the Migrant Trail in Southern Mexico @BensmanTodd , the Center’s Senior National Security Fellow, is on the ground tracking U.S. -bound migrants in southern Mexico at the Guatemalan border. His footage shows rafts carrying human and commercial cargo from Guatemala to Mexico across the Rio Suchiate, with the Guatemalan side now also controlled by organized crime. Bensman found in interviews with the raft pilots that migrant traffic has increased due the upcoming U.S. election and concern that former President Trump may win, despite Mexican efforts to temporarily contain the flow north to make the border issue seem less serious.
