“We are one of the first Universities to do this but we don’t want to be the last”
Unimelb for Palestine, a collective of University of Melbourne affiliates, says it has collected evidence over the course of the past year, highlighting their university’s links with weapons companies supporting Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
On October 20, the grassroots movement announced that it has begun the process of referring their university and its leadership, fronted by Duncan Maskell, to the International Criminal Court’s prosecutor.
In its announcement, the student movement paid tribute to Mahmoud al Naouq, a 25-year-old Palestinian who was tragically killed in Gaza by Israeli attack. Al Naouq had been preparing to attend the University of Melbourne on a scholarship before his death in October 2023.
