Energy minister Michael Shanks says, the prime minister’s pledge to reduce carbon emissions by 81% by 2035 is "hugely important". He also says it’s an "ambitious target" but is "achievable".
Talking to Sky’s Sophy Ridge, Mr Shanks says the country went through a "period of declined enthusiasm" towards climate change under the previous government. Since Labour came into power, he says everything they’ve done "has been about moving towards that climate leadership again".
Mr Shanks also discusses the news of Justin Welby resignation as the Archbishop of Canterbury, and his opinions on assisted dying.
