A US official has disputed Kyiv’s claim that Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) at Ukraine, reports the BBC’s US partner CBS News.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says Ukraine was attacked with a "new Russian rocket" and suggests it has the "characteristics" of an ICBM.
Russia has refused to comment – instead it claims, without further information, to have shot down two UK-supplied Storm Shadow missiles
ICBMs are designed to deliver nuclear warheads, but can also be fitted with conventional explosives, and travel thousands of kilometres at high speed. There’s no suggestion a nuclear warhead was deployed in this case.
It’s still unclear exactly what was damaged in the attack, which Ukraine says was targeting infrastructure in the eastern city of Dnipro.
