The first round of the presidential election in Romania saw a pro-Russia candidate claim the most votes, knocking the pro-European Union prime minister out of the race in the process.
With nearly all of the votes counted, the far right’s Calin Gerogescu found himself with about 23% of votes, with center-right candidate Elena Lasconi just behind. A run-off election will be held in two weeks to decide the winner.
