Scholz has visited Ukraine for the second time since the start of the war. Upon arriving, he announced a new 650 million euro arms package for Ukraine and stressed that Germany would remain the country’s strongest supporter in Europe. Ukraine is struggling to fend off a grinding offensive, and support from the US — Kyiv’s largest military backer — has been thrown into doubt by Donald Trump’s return to the White House in January.
