After five days of advancing from the northwest Idlib region of Syria towards the country’s major cities, Syrian opposition groups have furthered their claim of Aleppo with their December 2 seizure of Aleppo International Airport.
The Center for Strategic and International Studies highlighted the lighting pace at which the Syrian opposition were able to advance their strategic capture of land and travel routes in their moves south and west of Idlib.
Critically, by November 30, they controlled 100 kilometres of the M5 highway, which connects Aleppo and Damascus, Syria’s two most crucial cities to rule.
