The leader of Germany’s conservative opposition party CDU/CSU Friedrich Merz has visited the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv. Merz stands a good chance of becoming Germany’s new leader after the upcoming snap elections in February. He met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
We asked DW Chief Political Editor Michaela Küfner what Merz is hoping to achieve with his trip to war-torn Ukraine.
