With the fall of the half century-long Assad rule in Syria, rebel forces released thousands of prisoners from the country’s notorious network of jails. But more than 100,000 Syrians are thought to have disappeared since Bashar al-Assad’s crackdown on anti-goverbmentt protests in 2011, and while some families have been reunited with their loved ones, others are still without news and fear the worst, as bodies and evidence of torture in state-run prisons comes to light every day.
