While France has been without a Prime Minister for several days, President Emmanuel Macron met this morning François Bayrou, president of the centrist MoDem party and a heavyweight in French politics for many years, at the Elysée Palace. As the french politics editor Marc Perelman points out, Bayrou has always been a ‘staunch ally’ of the President, and is tipped to become Prime Minister.
