Lord Mandelson is the "best choice" to take on the US ambassador role and smooth relations between the UK and US, Lord Darroch has told Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips.
Lord Darroch, who did the same US ambassador job between 2016 and 2019, said Lord Mandelson was a "very experienced politician".
He gave him some advice on how to deal with the new President, including handling Trump’s 5am social media posts.
Lord Mandelson, a former Labour MP and spin doctor, has taken on the role at a crucial time for UK and US relations with the threat of heavy trade tariffs looming.
