Weavers of Ireland’s famous Donegal tweed are calling for a special protected status for their product to combat the emergence of cheaper imitations from abroad.
Efforts are under way to take advantage of a change in EU policy, which could see non-food and drink products receive the same protected designation as champagne or parma ham.
