Russia says its troops have taken the strategic stronghold of Kurakhove in Ukraine’s Donetsk region. Kurakhove, a logistics hub, has held out for months. If Moscow has indeed taken the town, it would enable its forces to step up the pace of their advance in Donetsk. Images showing troops raising a Russian flag have been geolocated by Reuters news agency to Kurakhove. Meanwhile Russia is dealing with a new Ukrainian offensive inside the Kursk region of western Russia.
