Crews battling the Los Angeles fires are bracing for a return of the powerful winds that first started fanning the flames on Tuesday. Forecasters expect the windy conditions to last through Wednesday. Authorities say there is still grave risk to lives and property as emergency crews in the air and on the ground struggle to bring the blazes under control. Sixteen people have now been confirmed dead, with more than 12,000 structures destroyed.
DW’s Stefan Simons has been speaking with firefighters, residents, and communities whose losses have brought them closer together.
