NASA report: 2024 was hottest year on record

“There’s still time to avoid the worst of the climate catastrophe. But leaders must act – now,” United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said.

2024 has officially been declared the hottest year on record, with global temperatures surpassing 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels for the first time, according to reports by NASA and the World Meteorological Organization.

The breach of this critical threshold brings the world closer to surpassing the climate goals outlined in the 2015 Paris Agreement.

The climate crisis is being linked to more frequent and intense natural disasters, including devastating wildfires fueled by fierce winds sweeping through Los Angeles.
