A two-month-old baby, Sham al-Shambari, died on Tuesday due to extreme cold in a tent where the family was sheltering in Khan Younis, southern Gaza. The infant was laid to rest in a cemetery in Khan Younis.
In December alone, the United Nations reported that at least eight newborns lost their lives to hypothermia and 74 children perished amid the brutal winter conditions. The situation remains dire as Israel continues to block temporary housing from entering Gaza, leaving thousands of mobile homes stranded at the Rafah crossing with Egypt.
According to Gaza’s government media office, nearly 1.5 million Palestinians have been left without home or shelter following the ongoing Israeli war.
