Lords out, people in’: Protesters interrupt House of Lords to call for its abolition

A session of the House of Lords in London was interrupted by protesters calling for the abolition of the unelected chamber of the UK parliament and its replacement with a ‘House of the People.’

Protesters dropped leaflets with the phrase “Never mind the Lords here’s the House of People” written on one side and “Aristocrats and oligarchs: Out. Posties, mums, nurses and neighbours: In. Replace the House of Lords to save the UK” on the other.

The House of Lords is one of the two houses of the UK Parliament. It reviews and suggests changes to laws made by the House of Commons. Its members are not elected but are appointed for life, inherit their positions, or are senior bishops.
