Republican senator grilled at town hall over illegal deportations

Republican Senator Chuck Grassley faced sharp criticism of the Trump administration during a town hall in Fort Madison, Iowa, after a Maryland man was mistakenly deported to El Salvador.
In recent weeks, Republican lawmakers have faced mounting public backlash over their support for the Trump administration’s mass deportation plans and proposed cuts to key federal agencies.
House Speaker Mike Johnson has urged GOP lawmakers to skip town halls, warning of “professional protesters” and “paid troublemakers” allegedly backed by Democrats.
Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries responded: “We don’t need paid protesters. The American people are with us.”
