Trump’s unpredictability – a weakness China can exploit, or a risk it can’t ignore? | DW News

President Donald Trump sent global markets into free fall three weeks ago by announcing tariffs on the rest of the world. He quickly rolled those tariffs back to focus on what he sees as America’s main economic enemy, China.
Trump slapped heavy tariffs on Chinese imports and Beijing responded in kind. Both countries are now locked in a trade war with neither side reaping any benefits. In the US the economic indicators are going from bad to worse, so the White House is now signalling a willingness to de-escalate.
