Hundreds of UN employees protested on Thursday outside the United Nations’ European headquarters, denouncing job losses across the global body due to major funding cuts by US President Donald Trump and other donors.
Protesters held banners reading “Stop firing UN staff now!” and chanted “UN staff are not a commodity!”
The deepest cuts are expected at agencies that rely entirely or primarily on voluntary contributions from former top donor, the United States—such as the World Food Programme and the UN Refugee Agency.
