At a NATO summit press conference, US President Donald Trump was asked if he views NATO allies as “children” after Secretary General Mark Rutte jokingly called him “daddy.”
Trump said the comment was made “very affectionately” and added that European allies will eventually be able to defend themselves.
His remarks followed NATO’s pledge to raise defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2035.
