Jerome Powell Trying to Sabotage the Trump Economy Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s refusal to cut interest rates is blatantly political. Powell was more than willing to cut interest rates after the Biden administration printed trillions with the so called “Inflation Reduction Act” — in an attempt to help Democrats in the 2024 election. But now that Trump and the Republicans are in power, Powell’s refusal to cut rates because of the Trump tariffs just proves he is making political decisions as chairman.
