President Donald Trump made strong claims against U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) on Tuesday. Trump said Schiff was involved in a mortgage fraud scheme that started when Schiff was leading the January 6 committee against Trump. In a long post on Truth Social, Trump called Schiff a “scam artist.” He wrote, “And now I learn that Fannie Mae’s Financial Crimes Division have concluded that Adam Schiff has engaged in a sustained pattern of possible Mortgage Fraud.” Trump explained that Schiff listed his home in Maryland as his main residence to get a cheaper mortgage rate. But Schiff had to live in California because he was a Congressman from there. This is like the claims against New York Attorney General Letitia James, who faced calls for criminal charges earlier this year over issues with her mortgage papers. James called it a “political witch hunt” and has access to a $10 million fund for legal help. Schiff has not gotten the same support from lawyers in his state yet. Trump added, “I always knew Adam Schiff was a Crook. “Trump said the fraud began when Schiff refinanced his Maryland home on February 6, 2009, listing it as his primary residence. This went on until October 13, 2020, when the papers were changed to show it as a second home. Schiff was in the U.S. House from 2001 to 2024, then won a Senate seat. “Mortgage Fraud is very serious, and CROOKED Adam Schiff (now a Senator) needs to be brought to justice,” Trump said. Schiff has not replied to these claims. Instead, he has been criticizing Trump on issues like the “Alligator Alcatraz” idea and the government’s handling of floods in Texas. Schiff often calls Trump authoritarian, incompetent, and unethical. For example, Schiff posted, “Firing everyone who could tell you what you’re doing is unethical or illegal does not make what you’re doing ethical or legal.” This was after Attorney General Pam Bondi fired the Justice Department’s ethics watchdog. Some joke that the watchdog might need to work in Schiff’s office now, given these fraud claims.
Trump’s control over federal agencies has grown. He has put loyal people in places like the Federal Housing Finance Agency, where Director William Pulte helps find wrongdoing by Trump’s enemies. Critics are surprised by Trump’s bold moves to break old rules and place supporters in these agencies. But as Tuesday’s news shows, Trump is digging deep to find dirt on his opponents.From X posts, many users support Trump’s claims. One said Trump “roasted” Schiff, calling him “one of the lowest of the low” and a “serious lowlife.” Another post asks if Schiff can be a California Senator if he lives in Maryland, noting his family lives there and his daughter went to high school in Maryland. Some call for Schiff’s impeachment or arrest, saying he’s “so fucked” after being caught “red handed.” Reports link the story to Breitbart and Daily Caller, where Trump accuses Schiff of lying about his home to commit fraud.
