Brazil’s president Lula da Silva has denounced Donald Trump’s plan to impose an extra 50% tariff on Brazilian exports as “unacceptable blackmail”, as tensions between the two countries continue to escalate. Silva has vowed a firm response to the new measure, pledging to defend Brazil’s national sovereignty against what he calls foreign interference. Rupert Stone has this report.
