Why our planet is drowning in plastic waste | DW News

More than 170 countries are meeting over the next weeks to negotiate an end to what some experts have called a "plastic crisis". At a time when globally we are producing more plastic than ever, some nations are calling for a reduction to combat plastic waste. Currently, less than 10% of the plastic produced worldwide is recycled – instead much of it ends up polluting the environment and it is having a deep impact on human health. So, why are we continuing to produce so much plastic? Why is it so hard to recycle? And what solutions are out there?
