The US is also using the tariffs as a way to influence the war in Ukraine. In this latest round it has targetted India, which has ramped up its purchases of Russian oil since Ukraine’s allies began weaning themselves off it. Trump now says he will double tariffs on Indian products to 50 percent, accusing Delhi of bankrolling Russia’s war effort. But India accuses the US and Europe of double standards.
