How did Prabowo handle the protests? What effect did this have on Indonesia’s democracy? | DW News

Notably absent from the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s annual summit in China was Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. He cancelled his trip amid the worst civil unrest in Indonesia for decades. At least five people have been killed in days of protests. Subianto has warned that some of the protesters’ actions are ‘leaning towards treason and terrorism’, and has urged the army to take action.
