In Nepal’s capital – Kathmandu, at least 19 people have died after police opened fire on large demonstrations against the government’s decision to ban several social media apps, including WhatsApp and Facebook. The government says they failed to register with the authorities as part of a new law designed to stop online hate, rumours and cybercrime. But demonstrators say the law limits freedom of expression while also hitting one of the country’s biggest sources of income – tourism. Paul Hawkins has more.
