Israel’s war in Gaza and the expansion of Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank have brought growing calls for the recognition of a Palestinian state. The United Nations General Assembly will take up the issue on Tuesday. 147 of the 193 member nations have already recognized Palestinian statehood. Britain, France, Canada, Australia and Belgium all plan to do so at the UN this week.
