Malawians turned out in large numbers, queuing from dawn to dusk for one of the country’s most competitive elections. Seventeen candidates are running, but the race is expected to come down to incumbent President Lazarus Chakwera and his predecessor Peter Mutharika. Voters say they want a leader who can tackle the struggling economy, soaring prices, and food shortages. Results could take up to eight days, with officials urging patience and calm.
