Between 1948 to 1971 thousands of families relocated from British colonies in the West Indies to help rebuild post-war Britain. This wave of new arrivals from the Caribbean would become known as the Windrush Generation. They lay the foundation for what has grown into one of the UKs most vibrant minority communities.
In 2017 it emerged that many of those people, despite having arrived in the UK legally, were being detained and deported as part of a UK government crackdown. Victims were denied their legal rights, and in many cases lost their jobs, their homes, and the lives that they had built over decades.
It became known as the Windrush Scandal.
On this episode of The InnerView, Political Activist and Windrush Campaigner Patrick Vernon joins Imran Garda to discuss the Windrush Scandal, and how the UK government has been making up for letting down a generation.
