The Global Sumud Flotilla said on September 22 that many of its ships were 715 nautical miles from Gaza, converging in international waters ahead of an attempt to break Israel’s blockade of the besieged enclave.
Israel has vowed to stop the flotilla, declaring that it will not allow vessels into what it calls an “active combat zone” or permit any breach of its naval blockade.
The flotilla organisers said two of their boats were targeted by drone attacks before departure. Previously, Israel blocked two earlier activist boats sailings to Gaza in June and July.
