UN spokesperson calls for Security Council reform

“We need to make the Security Council more representative of the world of 2025. (…) The fact that there is not one African permanent seat hits at the center of the credibility of the Security Council”

In an exclusive interview with TRT World, UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric called for reform of the UN Security Council, where the US has repeatedly vetoed Gaza-related resolutions in the last two years.

Reform efforts have been backed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has long reminded the UN General Assembly that “the world is bigger than five,” referring to the five permanent members of the Council (China, Russia, France, the UK and the US).
